My Business Journey – Month 1

A few weeks back I registered my business with the state and officially became a legal business owner. It was a great day to celebrate after a long time coming and one of my biggest goals in life becoming a reality. Yesterday I had received my business tax ENI number which made things official.

This first month is going to be more of a preparation month. Now that I have set up my LLC I submitted my trademark application through legalzoom. The product that I will be launching will be branded under a specific trademark but owned by my LLC. This way I can branch out into many different products as my business starts to expand. The trademark application will take another 10-15 days to process as I chose to do the standard package which costed me $484.

So what’s next?

  • Apply for a business credit card
  • Open a business checking account

I submitted my application for a Business Ink Chase credit card. Which I hope to receive an answer in the mail about in the next couple of weeks. I have been a chase customer for years and I hope that they take that into account when using this as my first business credit card. So we will see if I get approved or not for that. The next thing I need to do is open a business checking account. I have been a banking customer of Santander for over 10 years so I plan on opening a basic business checking account with them. Again since I am just starting out I think that it is important to leverage existing relationships as I believe trust might play a large factor in this.

After all the steps above are complete which I will hope to have done by the third week in August I will then open up an Amazon Business Account. Once that is completed I should have everything I need to really get going.

I will try and post an update during the first of every month so you can track my progress and hopefully I myself one day inspire you to start your own business!
